Attention all Curvy Couture lovers! Henry N. Jackson is a designer to watch. His launch of his NHJ line last night premiered 24 looks, comprising a true real sized collection for Fall 2009/2010. What a breath of fresh air Henry is and it underscored the need for a high-end fashion look for women who are not a size 0-12. Henry's use of luxurious in silks, satins and jerseys, with other fine imported fabrics chosen to specifically enhance the naturally curvacious figure of the modern woman. Henry gives homage to the 1930's glamour updated with a fresh new twist. His years of designing for Valentino in Rome and Oscar de La Renta in New York have given him the ability to incorporate a true couture style into his very wearable pieces. He is an award winning designer with a friendly and open demeanor. You gotta love a guy whose first muse was his mother, a woman who never let her size stop her self expression and joy of life. Henry is exactly what the curvy community needs to give it that panache that is sorely lacking in the arena at the present moment. He was voted America's Next Great Designer two years in a row and won the Rising Star award from the International press association. I was honored to introduce him last night as he presented a fashion show during the NoHo Artwalk kickoff on April 16th. It was a spectacular evening of Art and Fashion, with Henry's style sensibility mixed with the vibrant art community in Manhattan. It was a beautiful spring night in downtown Manhattan, perfect to invite a diverse group of artists, art lovers, collectors and friends of friends of friends together to celebrate the 6 year old organization, brain child of acclaimed artist, Harriet Fields, who is also the president of the NOHO business league. The evening was a wonderful marriage as the art on the walls matched the art on the runway. The delicious desserts and wine provided a sweet touch to t he evening's festivities. I met so many wonderful people....Tom McAllister of Williamsburg Fashion Weekend and Allan Russell, city councilmen and representative for the NoHo district. Allan and I conferred on some interesting ideas for bringing the garment district back to the lower east side, the roots of the "schmata" trade that so defines New York City and the fashion scene today.

Torrid Stores

I just had the pleasure of walking into a Torrid Store. What I saw were fresh trends (rouched skinny jeans, distressed 5 pockets, burnt out tunic tee's, such a nice assortment of trend forward tops and evening offerings)...the store looked "on it".

Fashion Trends for Spring 2009

Accessories: Bib like necklaces, chunkier the better (in wood, plastic, beads, metal, paper) ...once you pair it up with simple jeans and t shirt, you can go anywhere and look like you know what's going on. Earrings: Beautiful and sizable. Shoulder length chandelier babies. Love these up...keep it simple though. These are enough for any outfit and adding any more will detract from yours and your earring's beauty.

Harem style loose fitting pants: Amen. Stock up on these as long as you wear slim close to the body tops to balance out. Throw on a cute kitten heel or if your daring 3-4 inch heal and your ready for a night out dancing with the girls.

Color: Bright and bold colors (acid bold) mixed with faded pinks, turquoise, pastel lavender. Pick one statement color for a jacket or skirt but not both. Patterns/Prints: Anything goes these days with mixing polka dots and stripes (really, no kidding) just as long as its all in the same color family. If Michael Kors can do it so can you (if you want).

Dresses: Ruffles bring fem to the weekend bbq. Be in on the hem or cascading down the neckline, you will look ready for romance.

To begin I will have my gotta have links in my Fashion Section while the Shopping page is being worked on. Come and visit regularly. This way you can shop if you choose from the blog I have on an item I love or feel we need to have at EmmeStyle. Please share with me your most favorite sites and the pieces you bought there. If you can add what your experience was, I will add that to the Fashion blog as well.

Also just as importantly, if customer service is not up to par or you had a bad experience that was not cleared up to your liking let me know and I will remove them. Plain and simple.
